Antique painted cabinet in pine wood, Central European rural furniture with burgundy paint originating from Central Europe and dated circa 1900. Originates from Central Europe, from the late 19th century, where Alpine rural furniture was painted in deep reddish tones as an alternative to the light finish, offering warm chromatism in domestic interiors.
In the rural houses of Central Europe, small burgundy-painted cabinets served a storage function and provided a structural chromatic note in the main room. The deep burgundy tone, characteristic of Alpine furniture, was obtained with mineral pigments applied over prepared pine.
Built in solid pine using traditional joinery. The front articulates a door with a recessed central panel and a forged iron closure fitting. The sides are moulded with a stepped profile and the piece is topped with a moulded cornice. The carpentry is direct, characteristic of rural furniture.
The patina retains the original burgundy paint with broad abrasions, small losses and traces of prolonged use. The back shows small old interventions, normal in pieces of this period. The sheen is matte. The structure remains sound.
It fits naturally in wabi-sabi, contemporary rustic with a chromatic accent and eclectic interiors. It works as an auxiliary cabinet in an entrance, a storage piece in a bedroom or a character element in a living room. The burgundy colour gives it a singular chromatic presence.
