This antique sideboard in solid pine, with two drawers, two doors and a washed grey patina, is a domestic piece from northern China around 1930.
Sideboards from coastal areas in North of China, on the Bohai Sea, share their structure with inland furniture but often show more washed finishes, characteristic of the salt-air climate and regional household use. The combination of upper drawers and lower doors suited storage for bedding, tableware or small provisions.
The frame is built with blind mortise-and-tenon joinery. The two upper drawers keep their original circular wrought-iron rings, while the two lower doors swing on dowel pivots and close with matching escutcheons and pulls. A shaped apron raises the case a few centimetres above the floor.
The patina shows the pearl-grey tone characteristic of pine washed by time in coastal interiors, with deep grain and faint dark pigment traces in the rebates. Wear is consistent: softened edges, light front rub and ironwork with stable oxidation.
It works as a living-room sideboard, a low TV cabinet or a storage piece in a main bedroom. Its washed tone and quiet silhouette blend naturally into wabi-sabi, japandi or coastal-rustic interiors, bringing character without dominating the scene.
