This Art Deco serving trolley on castors in walnut wood features a curved silhouette, a lower magazine rack and two drawers with brass pulls. The base mounts four original brass castors. It originates from Czechoslovakia, from central European Art Deco, circa 1930, when auxiliary furniture was designed with softened geometric lines and noble wood veneers.
Art Deco auxiliary furniture from central Europe — Czechoslovakia, Austria, Hungary — combined the refined geometry of the modern movement with traditional materials such as walnut veneer. Pieces on castors belonged to the bourgeois drawing-room: smoker’s stand, drinks trolley, magazine rack or telephone cabinet. Czechoslovak production of the 1930s offered this type of furniture for the expanding urban middle class.
The body is built over an internal structure with walnut veneer applied across the entire visible surface. The silhouette shows S-curved sides, a front panel with two drawers with rectangular brass pulls and an open lower magazine rack. The base mounts four circular swivelling brass castors. The surface is varnished in a polished finish that brings out the figure of the grain.
The patina keeps the original polished surface with soft use marks typical of a piece in domestic use. The walnut veneer keeps a warm figure in medium brown tones. The castors and brass pulls retain their golden patina with slight oxidation marks. The lower magazine rack is complete and functional.
With its contained size — 57 × 35 × 59 cm — and functional castors, this piece plays a clear role as a side table in a living room, a magazine support, a coffee side table or an Art Deco accent piece. It suits Art Deco, central European mid-century, contemporary eclectic and modernist interiors with historical period presence.
