This antique round low table in pine wood features a round top formed by joined longitudinal boards and a low cross support in oak. It measures 91 × 91 cm in plan by only 18 cm in height. It originates from Central Europe, from the mid-twentieth century, when pine was worked in rural domestic furniture without added paint or varnish.
Round low tables from east-central Europe belonged to the peasant domestic ambit. Their reduced height placed them as a floor-seated service table, a cheese table or an auxiliary rural kitchen table. The round shape was obtained by trimming a set of joined longitudinal boards, giving the piece an organic silhouette characteristic of peasant rural carpentry. This 91 cm diameter variant belongs to the larger size of the typology.
The top is built with four longitudinal solid pine boards joined by bevel, cut to a round shape. The top surface is polished by use and shows the natural figure of the grain. Beneath the top, two X-shaped solid oak legs offer a low and stable support. The joinery between top and legs is mortise-and-tenon, without metal fasteners.
The patina keeps a warm brown tone typical of pine without varnish, darkened by decades of domestic use. The top surface shows natural marks — small stains, service rings, soft knocks — composing a layered aesthetic reading. The pine knots are visible. The oak legs keep a darker tone by contrast with the top.
With its round shape and 91 cm diameter, this table works as a very low coffee side table, a decorative tray support, an auxiliary low living-room table, a sculptural plinth or a table for floor-seated service. It suits wabi-sabi, japandi, contemporary rustic, European brocante and minimalist interiors with rural antique presence.
