This antique sideboard in pine wood features two doors with a perimeter frame and a recessed central field on each. It originates from northern China, from the late Qing dynasty, where pine was worked using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery.
Chinese domestic furniture from the north worked with stable typologies throughout the Qing dynasty. The compact pine sideboard variant without added paint belongs to the more sober vernacular register, where the natural figure of the wood and the iron hardware compose the entire visual expression. Its accessible 82 cm height places it in hallways, entrances and intermediate rooms.
The body is built in solid pine. The front comprises two identical doors with a perimeter frame and a recessed central field, separated by a vertical upright. Beneath the doors a low rail closes the composition. The pulls are circular hand-forged iron rings. The construction is traditional Chinese mortise-and-tenon, without metal fasteners.
The patina keeps a warm natural tone with the pine grain visible. The top surface shows the natural figure of the wood with the characteristic knots of pine and small longitudinal cracks consistent with age. The hardware presents stable oxidation.
With its 82 cm height and contained 108 cm length, this sideboard works in medium living rooms, dining rooms, entrances and bedrooms. It suits wabi-sabi, japandi, contemporary rustic and Asian-inspired interiors.
