This pair of antique bentwood chairs in the Thonet style in steamed beech, with wraparound back, curved arms and round seat, belongs to the family of the Viennese desk chair produced across Central Europe around 1905. Originates from Central Europe, around 1905, where steam-bending produced enveloping forms without complex joinery.

Produced during the same period as Thonet furniture, this chair reflects the bentwood technique developed in Central Europe in the late 19th century. Its construction and typology suggest a parallel production—possibly a contemporary copy or a piece made under license within the broader network of workshops that adopted this innovative method. Beyond any specific attribution, it retains the functional character and essential aesthetic of period bentwood design.

The two chairs share technique, period and bentwood structure, with backs of different design: one with vertical spindles, the other with a fan-shaped openwork splat. The arms spring from a continuous arc integrated into the side frame. The seat is round, of solid moulded wood, above a circular lower stretcher.

The beech patina shows a dark honey tone with natural sheen. The heaviest wear is on the armrests, seat rim and lower stretcher. Both pieces show slight dimensional variations.

These chairs work well in a reading corner, study or conversation area. Their compact volume suits Art Nouveau, eclectic or contemporary interiors.
