This antique Chinese cabinet in painted wood with two carved floral doors, two drawers and worn red lacquer, is a domestic storage piece from northern China around 1900. Originates from northern China, from the late Qing period, where domestic pieces were decorated with floral relief carving over red paint.

Cabinets with carved panel doors were among the more elaborate pieces in Chinese popular furniture. Carved flowers in vases, common in the late Qing period, carried the symbolism of prosperity associated with seasonal blooms.

The two doors carry low-relief carving showing flowers in a vase on each panel. Hand-forged iron hardware frames the panels. The two lower drawers have iron escutcheon locks. The red lacquer is partially preserved on the sides and rear.

The patina combines residual red lacquer with the dark tone of natural wood. The carving retains greater darkness in the recesses, creating visual depth in the floral motifs.

This cabinet suits japandi, wabi-sabi or orientalist eclectic interiors. The floral carving makes it especially suited for bedrooms or contemplative spaces.
