This antique green painted bench in pine wood is a bench with a backrest, a shaped crest rail and armrests, with a continuous seat on curved legs. It originates from Central Europe, from the early twentieth century, within the tradition of painted folk furniture.
Painted benches accompanied the kitchen and entrance of the Central European rural home, as continuous seating for several people. Their colour and shaped profile placed them as pieces of use and of adornment.
The structure is solid pine, with a panelled seat and back, a wave-profiled crest rail and curved-cut legs. The joinery is traditional and the whole is solid despite its length.
The green paint, applied over the wood, shows the soft wear of use, with areas where the pine emerges. The patina reads authentic, with no repainting to mask its history.
For its continuous seat and its colour, it serves as a hallway bench, a dining bench beside a table or a seat on a covered porch. It fits rustic, country and eclectic interiors, where it brings presence and an accent of colour.
