This antique chest of drawers was made in Central Europe at the end of the nineteenth century, when domestic furniture combined practical functionality with strong regional craft traditions. Pieces like this were common in homes across Austria, Germany and Bohemia, where pine was widely used for everyday household furniture.
Crafted in solid pine, the chest features a sturdy and well-balanced structure with three spacious drawers originally intended to store clothing, linens and household textiles. Its design is restrained and functional, with clean lines and harmonious proportions typical of Central European furniture of the period.
White porcelain knobs and metal key plates create a subtle contrast against the warm tone of the wood. Traditional joinery visible in the drawers reflects the solid craftsmanship with which the piece was made.
At some point during its life the chest was painted, which was common for domestic furniture of the time. During restoration this later paint layer was carefully removed, revealing the natural colour and texture of the pine.
Today the surface shows a natural aged patina, where the grain of the wood, knots and small traces of use remain visible.
