This antique red painted bench in pine wood is a bench with a backrest of turned spindles and armrests, with a continuous seat. It originates from Central Europe, from the early twentieth century, within the tradition of painted folk furniture.

Benches with an open spindle back accompanied the kitchen and entrance of the Central European rural home. The turned back lightened the piece and gave it a decorative rhythm of its own.

The structure is solid pine, with a panelled seat and a back of turned spindles between the crest rail and the lower rail. The joinery is traditional; the piece is slender and should be handled with care.

The red paint shows marked wear from use, with losses that reveal the wood and a seat of natural tone. The patina reads authentic, with no repainting.

For its continuous seat and decorative back, it serves as a hallway bench or a dining bench beside a table. It fits rustic, country and eclectic interiors, where it brings colour and character.
