This antique plan chest in beech wood is a map chest with flat drawers and inset pulls, of cubic body and robust construction. It originates from Central Europe, from the mid-twentieth century, within the tradition of industrial archive furniture.
Plan chests kept maps, plates and large-format drawings in technical studios, print shops and design offices. Their system of wide, shallow drawers protected paper laid flat.
The body is beech wood, with a stack of flat drawers on wooden guides and inset pulls. Some drawers keep internal dividers and others run open, as can be seen in the photos.
The patina is warm and blond, proper to beech, with even wear and small marks on the fronts. The surface keeps its honest reading, with no restoration to mask it.
Today it serves as a storage chest, a creative-studio cabinet or a high-capacity base beneath a worktop. It fits industrial, mid-century and contemporary interiors, where it brings order and functional character.
