This antique rustic low bench in wood is a low seat with a slatted top and a stretchered frame, of rectangular plan. It originates from Central Europe, from the mid-twentieth century, within folk furniture of daily use.
Low benches served in the rural home as an extra seat, a footrest or a support to reach and work at low height. Their simple construction answered to constant use.
The structure is solid wood, with a seat of spaced slats on legs joined by stretchers. The joinery is traditional and the piece is stable.
The paint, in cream and red tones over the slats, shows marked wear from use, with stains and losses that reveal the wood. The patina reads authentic, with no repainting.
For its low height, it serves as a bench, a footrest or a low side table to set objects down. It fits rustic, country and eclectic interiors, where it brings character and a lived-in patina.
