This antique sideboard in pine wood features two doors with a profiled perimeter frame and a recessed central field. It originates from northern China, from the late Qing dynasty, where pine was worked using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery.
Chinese domestic furniture from the north worked with stable typologies throughout the Qing dynasty. The medium pine sideboard variant without added paint or lacquer belongs to the more sober vernacular register, where the natural figure of the wood and the iron hardware compose the entire visual expression.
The body is built in solid pine. The front comprises two identical doors with a profiled perimeter frame and a recessed central field. The sides are solid. The lower apron is simple and the legs continue square to the floor. The pulls are circular hand-forged iron rings. The construction is traditional Chinese mortise-and-tenon, without metal fasteners.
The patina keeps a warm natural tone with the pine grain visible. The top surface shows the natural figure and the characteristic knots of pine. The most exposed areas have acquired a darker tone through handling. The hardware presents stable oxidation.
With its 90 cm height and contained 144 cm length, this sideboard works as a storage piece in medium living rooms, dining rooms, entrances and bedrooms. It suits wabi-sabi, japandi, contemporary rustic and Asian-inspired interiors.
