Antique Japanese cedar cabinet (Cryptomeria japonica) with sliding glass doors and lower drawers, made in Japan between the late Taishō period and the early years of the Showa period, circa 1912–1945.

This type of Japanese storage cabinet reflects the practical elegance of early twentieth-century domestic furniture in Japan. Its structure combines enclosed storage, display sections and drawers, allowing objects to be organized and presented within interiors designed for balance and simplicity.

The piece is crafted in Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica), a lightweight and aromatic wood traditionally used in Japanese furniture for its stability and natural resistance to humidity. The fine grain and warm tone of the wood give the cabinet a calm and luminous presence.

The design combines sliding glass doors in the central section with smaller upper compartments and a series of lower drawers with metal pulls. This arrangement allowed household objects, documents or tools to be stored efficiently while maintaining visual harmony.

The surface retains a natural patina with signs of age and use, consistent with the cabinet’s history and original function. These traces of time are part of the character of antique Japanese furniture and contribute to the authenticity of the piece.

Today this cabinet can integrate easily into contemporary interiors, particularly those inspired by wabi-sabi or japandi aesthetics. It can function as a small sideboard, low display cabinet or auxiliary storage piece in a living room, dining room or study.
