Antique Japanese glass display cabinet with sliding glass doors and multiple drawers, made of solid wood and glass and dating from the late Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1920–1950.
This type of Japanese shop display cabinet was traditionally used in small stores to present merchandise while keeping additional items stored in drawers below.
The cabinet features sliding glass doors that protect the contents while allowing the displayed objects to remain visible. This practical system was widely used in Japanese shop furniture of the early twentieth century.
The lower section includes five drawers fitted with metal handles, designed for storing tools, documents or merchandise. Above them, two smaller sliding compartments complete the functional layout of the cabinet.
Inside, the cabinet includes several internal shelves and compartments that allowed shop owners to organize products according to size or use.
The surface retains a natural patina with signs of age and use, developed over decades of everyday use. These marks contribute to the authenticity of antique Japanese furniture.
Today this cabinet can be used as a display piece, sideboard or small bookcase in contemporary interiors, particularly in spaces inspired by japandi, wabi-sabi or minimalist design.
