Rustic kitchen table in pine wood with two front drawers, originating from the Alpine Central European tradition and dated around 1910. A piece of everyday domestic furniture halfway between a peasant kitchen table and a working table, representative of early 20th-century Tyrolean rural furniture.
In Alpine rural houses, the kitchen table was the functional centre of domestic life: a preparation surface, a family dining table, a sewing bench and a workstation for daily tasks. The two front drawers held cutlery, cloths or small utensils. The comfortable standing height and the solidity of the frame speak of intensive daily use, generation after generation.
It is built in solid pine, with a thick top of broad jointed boards and turned cylindrical legs joined by horizontal H-stretchers that stabilize the whole. The drawers are dovetail-jointed and retain their original white-porcelain pulls with a metal ring. The front is closed by a wide apron that houses the drawers and reinforces the structure.
The patina is highly expressive: the piece was painted in original green — still visible in small recesses of the apron, the legs and the stretchers — and later partially stripped, leaving the pine exposed in use areas while preserving the colour in the protected corners. The top shows knife marks, dents and the trace of decades of daily kitchen use, which give the piece its most authentic character.
Thanks to its domestic scale and lived surface, it sits naturally in contemporary rustic, Mediterranean, cottage or warm-toned kitchen-dining interiors, where it works as a small kitchen table, a breakfast table for two, a working table in a workshop or an auxiliary piece in an entrance. Its porcelain pulls add a touch of domestic character.
