Antique Japanese Isho-Dansu chest crafted from paulownia wood (kiri), dating to the late Meiji to early Taish\u014d period, circa 1890\u20131920.<\/strong> This type of tansu was traditionally used for storing clothing and textiles in Japanese homes.<\/p>\n

The piece features the typical structure of an isho-dansu<\/em>, with large horizontal drawers for garments and a vertical column of smaller drawers intended for accessories or personal items. Its design reflects the practical functionality of late nineteenth-century Japanese domestic furniture.<\/p>\n

It is constructed in paulownia (kiri)<\/strong>, a lightweight wood highly valued in Japan for textile storage due to its natural resistance to humidity and insects. The structure is reinforced with traditional iron fittings (kanagu)<\/strong> and protective corner plates.<\/p>\n
