Elegant Japanese vertical cabinet with ten drawers<\/strong> made in Japan during the mid Showa period<\/strong>, circa 1950\u20131979. Furniture of this type was traditionally used to store documents, tools or small materials in workshops, offices and small businesses.<\/p>\n

The tall and narrow design allows for numerous storage compartments while maintaining a compact footprint. Each drawer features shell-shaped metal handles<\/strong>, a typical detail found in functional Japanese furniture from the mid-twentieth century.<\/p>\n

The cabinet is constructed from a combination of woods commonly used in Japanese utilitarian furniture, including Kalopanax (Kalopanax septemlobus)<\/strong>, Shorea<\/strong>, rubberwood (Hevea brasiliensis)<\/strong> and Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica)<\/strong>. This mix of species provided durability while keeping the drawers lightweight.<\/p>\n

The drawer fronts display a warm wood grain that contrasts beautifully with the dark patina of the metal handles. The surface retains a natural aged patina<\/strong>, with marks of use that reflect its original purpose.<\/p>\n
