Provient d&#8217;Europe centrale, de la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du XIX\u1d49 si\u00e8cle, o\u00f9 le portrait \u00e0 la mine de plomb et au fusain se cultivait comme genre intime au sein du portrait bourgeois et aristocratique.<\/p>\n<p>Le portrait dessin\u00e9 de la p\u00e9riode romantique se situait \u00e0 mi-chemin entre le document personnel et la pi\u00e8ce de cabinet. Face \u00e0 l&#8217;huile, plus c\u00e9r\u00e9monieuse, le dessin permettait une intimit\u00e9 plus grande \u2014 s\u00e9ances courtes, attention au caract\u00e8re \u2014 et s&#8217;encadrait avec le m\u00eame soin qu&#8217;un grand tableau. Le fronton h\u00e9raldique qui couronne la moulure confirme le rang du commanditaire et rattache le portrait \u00e0 un lignage pr\u00e9cis.<\/p>\n<p>Le dessin est ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 \u00e0 la mine de plomb et au fusain sur papier teint\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#8217;aquarelle ocre, technique habituelle chez les portraitistes allemands et autrichiens du Biedermeier tardif. Le jeune homme appara\u00eet de trois quarts, chevelure boucl\u00e9e et col cravate haut, dans la pose contenue du portrait acad\u00e9mique. La moulure est en stuc dor\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#8217;eau sur \u00e2me de bois, \u00e0 frise de feuilles et rosaces aux angles, et conserve son fronton ajour\u00e9 d&#8217;origine au sommet.<\/p>\n<p>La patine de l&#8217;ensemble est chaude et honn\u00eate, le papier l\u00e9g\u00e8rement gondol\u00e9 et assombri par le temps, le dessin bien conserv\u00e9 et la dorure de la moulure us\u00e9e sur les ar\u00eates et les angles, laissant appara\u00eetre l&#8217;assiette rouge\u00e2tre du fond. Le fronton h\u00e9raldique pr\u00e9sente \u00e9galement des pertes ponctuelles coh\u00e9rentes avec son \u00e2ge.<\/p>\n<p>Il s&#8217;inscrit naturellement dans les int\u00e9rieurs \u00e9clectiques, classiques ou contemporains soign\u00e9s.
