Provient d&#8217;Europe centrale, de la p\u00e9riode de la S\u00e9cession viennoise, lorsque la maison Thonet diffusa le langage du bentwood \u2014 le bois de h\u00eatre courb\u00e9 \u00e0 la vapeur \u2014 dans tout le mobilier domestique europ\u00e9en.<\/p>\n<p>Le porte-manteau en bois courb\u00e9 na\u00eet comme compl\u00e9ment naturel de la chaise n\u00ba 14 de Thonet : l\u00e9ger, d\u00e9montable, fabricable en s\u00e9rie et exp\u00e9di\u00e9 dans des caisses plates \u00e0 tout coin de l&#8217;Empire austro-hongrois. Sa silhouette \u2014 un f\u00fbt vertical, une couronne de pat\u00e8res, une base en \u00e9ventail \u2014 devint ic\u00f4ne des caf\u00e9s viennois, des h\u00f4tels et des logements bourgeois de la fin du si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p>Il est construit en h\u00eatre massif courb\u00e9 \u00e0 la vapeur, avec des pi\u00e8ces tourn\u00e9es et pli\u00e9es \u00e0 froid apr\u00e8s moulage. Le f\u00fbt central est une tige tourn\u00e9e \u00e0 sa partie haute et basse, les pat\u00e8res sup\u00e9rieures sont six arcs ferm\u00e9s \u00e0 double courbe, fix\u00e9s \u00e0 la t\u00eate par une visserie cach\u00e9e, et la base se compose de quatre bras courb\u00e9s qui s&#8217;assemblent au pied par un tirant m\u00e9tallique int\u00e9rieur. La finition est teinte sombre et vernis, caract\u00e9ristique du programme Thonet.<\/p>\n<p>La patine est chaude et silencieuse, avec le vernis d&#8217;origine l\u00e9g\u00e8rement assombri par des d\u00e9cennies de service et de petites marques aux pointes des pat\u00e8res o\u00f9 l&#8217;on suspendait manteaux et chapeaux. La structure conserve sa fermet\u00e9 et sa g\u00e9om\u00e9trie d&#8217;origine, sans jeu dans les assemblages.<\/p>\n<p>Il s&#8217;inscrit naturellement dans les int\u00e9rieurs \u00e9clectiques, mid-century ou contemporains.
