Le plateau, d&#8217;une seule planche aux extr\u00e9mit\u00e9s l\u00e9g\u00e8rement relev\u00e9es, recueille une patine chaleureuse aux taches sombres h\u00e9rit\u00e9es de l&#8217;usage. Chine, vers 1930.<\/p>\n<p>Dans les habitations rurales du nord de la Chine, les buffets bas servaient de meuble polyvalent : rangement domestique, surface d&#8217;appui ou banc continu pr\u00e8s du kang. Leur hauteur limit\u00e9e r\u00e9pondait \u00e0 la logique d&#8217;une vie quotidienne largement d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e sur la plateforme d&#8217;adobe du kang.<\/p>\n<p>La construction est robuste : orme massif en structure et fa\u00e7ades, assemblages traditionnels en mortaise et tenon, ceinture inf\u00e9rieure festonn\u00e9e au profil ondul\u00e9 et plateau aux extr\u00e9mit\u00e9s l\u00e9g\u00e8rement saillantes. La quincaillerie \u2014 serrures et anneaux \u2014 est d&#8217;origine et conserve la patine du fer vieilli.<\/p>\n<p>La finition actuelle laisse voir l&#8217;orme naturel aux tonalit\u00e9s chaleureuses, baign\u00e9 d&#8217;une patine dense qui conserve les marques honn\u00eates d&#8217;un si\u00e8cle de vie domestique. Les portes ouvrent franchement et les tiroirs inf\u00e9rieurs glissent sans effort.<\/p>\n<p>Il fonctionne exceptionnellement bien comme meuble t\u00e9l\u00e9 en raison de sa faible hauteur et de sa longueur g\u00e9n\u00e9reuse, comme buffet de salon ou comme pi\u00e8ce allong\u00e9e sous une fen\u00eatre.
