Elle provient du nord de la Chine, de la fin de la dynastie Qing, o\u00f9 le pin \u00e9tait travaill\u00e9 selon un assemblage traditionnel \u00e0 tenons et mortaises.<\/p>\n<p>Les meubles bas longues de la tradition chinoise se pla\u00e7aient au sol dans les pi\u00e8ces domestiques et servaient de tablettes auxiliaires pour de petits objets \u2014 vaisselle \u00e0 th\u00e9, livres, objets rituels \u2014 \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 du <em>kang<\/em> chauff\u00e9 ou en appui sous une fen\u00eatre. Leur hauteur minimale et leur profondeur r\u00e9duite appartiennent au registre domestique intime du mobilier chinois du nord.<\/p>\n<p>Le corps est construit en pin massif. La fa\u00e7ade combine trois petits tiroirs align\u00e9s \u00e0 poign\u00e9es circulaires en fer forg\u00e9 et une petite porte carr\u00e9e \u00e0 l&#8217;extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 droite avec fermeture simple. La structure est tr\u00e8s \u00e9troite \u2014 seulement 21 cm de profondeur \u2014 et basse \u2014 30 cm de hauteur. L&#8217;assemblage est traditionnel chinois \u00e0 tenons et mortaises, sans visserie.<\/p>\n<p>Le d\u00e9cor peint conserve des motifs floraux \u00e0 l&#8217;encre sombre sur fond rouge vermillon. Les pigments se sont adoucis par l&#8217;usage et laissent voir le pin dans les zones de frottement, donnant \u00e0 la surface une lecture chaude et stratifi\u00e9e. La palette m\u00eale rouge vermillon intense, tons chauds du pin apparent et oxydation naturelle sur les ferrures de fer.<\/p>\n<p>Par sa forme \u00e9troite et basse, cette pi\u00e8ce joue un r\u00f4le clair dans les int\u00e9rieurs contemporains. Elle fonctionne comme tablette basse sous une fen\u00eatre, comme console au pied d&#8217;un lit, comme appui d\u00e9coratif dans un large couloir ou comme support horizontal dans les pi\u00e8ces d&#8217;inspiration asiatique.
