Il provient du nord-ouest de la Chine, de la fin de la dynastie Qing, o\u00f9 le sapin \u00e9tait travaill\u00e9 selon un assemblage traditionnel \u00e0 tenons et mortaises.<\/p>\n<p>Le mobilier domestique du nord-ouest de la Chine associe la tradition constructive continentale \u00e0 un vocabulaire d\u00e9coratif g\u00e9om\u00e9trique d&#8217;origine locale. La sculpture plane r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9e \u2014 motifs verticaux parall\u00e8les, frises v\u00e9g\u00e9tales entrelac\u00e9es, traverses d\u00e9coup\u00e9es \u2014 couvre la surface frontale avec un rythme r\u00e9gulier et constitue une marque r\u00e9gionale reconnaissable.<\/p>\n<p>Le corps est construit en sapin massif. La fa\u00e7ade se divise en trois panneaux carr\u00e9s en r\u00e9serve sculpt\u00e9s de motifs verticaux en relief plat. Au-dessus des panneaux court une frise v\u00e9g\u00e9tale sculpt\u00e9e \u00e0 motifs foli\u00e9s entrelac\u00e9s. La traverse basse pr\u00e9sente un profil d\u00e9coup\u00e9 en vagues. Les flancs sont massifs. L&#8217;assemblage est traditionnel chinois \u00e0 tenons et mortaises, sans visserie.<\/p>\n<p>La patine pr\u00e9sente un ton clair blanchi, r\u00e9sultat du vieillissement naturel du sapin et de la perte de la finition d&#8217;origine. La sculpture garde sa d\u00e9finition et les creux du relief accumulent des ombres qui mettent en valeur le dessin. La surface du plateau sup\u00e9rieur montre le grain naturel avec de petites fentes longitudinales propres au temps.<\/p>\n<p>Par sa longueur de 181 cm et sa hauteur de 87 cm, ce buffet fonctionne comme pi\u00e8ce de pr\u00e9sence importante dans les salons, salles \u00e0 manger et entr\u00e9es.
