Il provient d&#8217;Europe centrale, du milieu du XIXe si\u00e8cle, dans la tradition du coffre de mariage peint.<\/p>\n<p>Le coffre de mariage gardait le trousseau de la mari\u00e9e et pr\u00e9sidait la chambre comme meuble de prestige dans la maison rurale. Son d\u00e9cor peint lui conf\u00e9rait une valeur festive et symbolique.<\/p>\n<p>Le corps est en pin massif, avec un couvercle plat, des poign\u00e9es de fer et des pieds boule tourn\u00e9s. La structure conserve sa peinture d&#8217;origine sur toute la surface, avec une usure coh\u00e9rente avec son \u00e2ge.<\/p>\n<p>La fa\u00e7ade et le couvercle sont peints de vases fleuris et de bordures florales sur fond de couleur, en une polychromie populaire de rouges, verts et ocres. Le vase de fleurs symbolise la prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 et la fertilit\u00e9 du nouveau foyer ; \u00e0 l&#8217;int\u00e9rieur du couvercle appara\u00eet le monogramme IHS, de caract\u00e8re d\u00e9votionnel.<\/p>\n<p>Par son format et son d\u00e9cor, il s&#8217;emploie comme coffre au pied du lit, meuble d&#8217;entr\u00e9e ou pi\u00e8ce de rangement \u00e0 valeur d\u00e9corative.
