This antique beer garden set (Bierzelt) in pine wood and painted steel features a long table and two matching benches, all folding over X-shaped green-painted metal legs. It originates from Germany, from the mid-twentieth century, when these sets were standard pieces in outdoor beer gardens, popular festivals and the Oktoberfest.
The Festzeltgarnitur — festival tent set — is one of the most recognisable pieces of German popular twentieth-century furniture. Produced in series by breweries and event furniture makers, it combined solid pine tops and a folding metal structure for easy storage and transport. It appeared in outdoor beer gardens, fairs, patronal festivals and family celebrations.
The three elements are built on the same principle: solid pine tops joined by metal cross-rails on the underside and folding X-shaped steel legs painted green with steel hinges. The table measures 199 × 50 × 77 cm; each bench, 199 × 24 × 47 cm. The set assembles and folds without tools and stores flat. The metal structure keeps its original green paint.
The pine of the tops has been stripped and varnished later, which has lightened the surface and brought out the natural figure of the grain. Use marks — small stains, service knocks, mug rings — remain visible under the varnish as part of the historical reading of the pieces. The metal structure presents small oxidation marks in areas of contact with the ground.
With its proportions and robust character, this set works on terraces, in gardens, industrial lofts, contemporary rural dining rooms and hospitality spaces with vintage aesthetics. Its capacity to serve up to 8-10 guests with tight space makes it ideal for long project tables. It suits contemporary rustic, industrial, mid-century and brocante interiors.
